Psychometric Tests

Psychometric Tests: What are they and how are they classified?

By “test” is understood a previously structured situation, which is presented to one or several individuals so that they can develop within it, Psychometrics being the specialized branch of Psychology that is responsible for the creation, development and implementation of various instruments aimed at identifying, measuring and evaluating the intellectual, axiological, skills and personality characteristics of individuals, and of the same person in various circumstances.

GENERAL INTELLIGENCE TESTS

Created in order to identify the general level of intelligence, their origin is found in Esquirol’s efforts to classify the mentally weak and give them differentiated medical treatment according to the type and degree of the patient’s weakness.

They are characterized by measuring what is known as the G Factor, which is each person’s ability to solve problems. Its results are expressed in terms of Intelligence Quotient (IQ), which indicates the level of problems that the person can solve.

SPECIAL SKILLS TESTS

The central focus of this type of testing is the measurement of the achievements obtained by a person or a group after having undergone special training.

They were developed to fill gaps that general intelligence tests had not been careful to fill.

The reader can easily locate this type of evidence if she remembers taking a math, piano, or high jump test.

PERSONALITY TESTS

Personality tests are focused mainly on the emotional, social, and motivational aspects that distinguish a person from others.

Its use is mandatory when you want to know if a person is free of psychological problems that interfere with their relationship with themselves and their treatment with their peers, the possibility of adaptation to a new environment and the healthy handling of frustrating situations.
